Section and panel proposals for the ECPR General Conference in Bordeaux in France 5th-7th September 2013

The steering committee has decided that that we shall initiate two sections for the next ECPR General Conference that will take place in Bordeaux in France 5th-7th September next year; one section where the theme is within general comparative public opinion and voting behaviour and one section which focus on public opinion and voting behaviour in connection to EU-elections. We have asked scholars within these fields to formulate section proposals.

The deadline for section proposals to ECPR is 13 July and the accepted Sections will be finalised by the Academic Convenors by 30 July 2012.

However, the steering group has asked the proposed section chairs to formulate a somewhat preliminary text for the section proposals. Then we invite you to send panel proposals to the section chairs. The section chairs will then decide which panel proposal they will accept. The panel proposals that are accepted in this way will then be included in the application to ECPR. Given that our standing group has many members and that many members will like to participate according to previous experiences we find it natural that the applications contain the maximum number of panels which is 8. However, ECPR might accept section proposals without accepting all eight panels. There is then no guarantee that all panels that are accepted by the section chairs will be accepted in the end, but we consider it fairly likely that they will.

The section chairs and the two section proposals are outlined below.

Section on general comparative public opinion and voting behaviour:

Information, Competition and the Comparative Study of Public Opinion and Voting Behaviour

Section chairs:

Susan Banducci, University of Exeter, United Kingdom

Rachel Gibson, University of Manchester, United Kingdom

Section on public opinion and voting behaviour in connection to EU-elections:

European elections, Euroscepticism and the media

Section chairs:

Wouter van der Brug, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Olga Gyarfasova, Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia

Mark Franklin, European University Institute, Florence, Italy

So we invite you to consider panel proposals for these section proposals. Applications should be sent to the section chairs, and please send the proposals to both Susan Banducci and Rachel Gibson if you decide to send a proposal to the first section, and to all three section chairs if you send a proposal to the second section proposal. The email addresses to the section chairs are outlined above. The deadline for panel proposal to be included in the final application to ECPR is Monday 25 July. You will be informed by the section chairs whether your proposal is accepted or not to be included in the application by the section chairs.
