Newsletter January 2013 to the member of ECPR’s Standing Group on Public Opinion and Voting Behaviour in a Comparative Perspective

1. The two sections initiated by the steering group for the General Conference in Bordeaux in France.

In our previous newsletter we informed you that we had initiated two sections for the ECPR General Conference in Bordeaux in France 4th-7th September 2013. Both of these sections were accepted by the Academic Convenors and they both have the maximum number of panels (8).
The two sections are:
Comparative Public Opinion and Elections
and
European Elections, Euroscepticism and the Media
They can both be found on the ECPR website where you can see the description of the sections and also the various panels. You can also send a paper proposal for the panels. The deadline for paper proposals is 1 February.

2. Patrick Fournier’s summer school course on Political Psychology: Citizen Behaviors and Opinions
We will organise a summer school course this year. Patrick Fournier from the University of Montréal will teach a course on Political Psychology: Citizen Behaviors and Opinions.

We have received financial support for the course from:
The Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship at the McGill University, Montréal, Quebec, Canada,
the Training Network in Electoral Democracy (ELECDEM)
and the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo.

The standing group also organised a summer school course last year. The lecturer was Stuart Soroka from the Department of Political Science, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, who taught a course on “Public Opinion and Public Policy”
Both the course this year and the course last year are arranged within the framework of the Oslo Summer School in Comparative Social Science Studies.

3. Workshop applications for the Joint Sessions of workshops at Universidad de Salamanca, 21-26 April 2014
We would also like to remind you that the deadline for workshop proposals for the 2014 Joint Sessions of Workshop is coming up soon, namely 1 February. The steering group will not initiate workshop proposals, but we might endorse proposals that are within the research interests of out members.
