CfP: Democracy: A Citizen Perspective

Sent by Åsa Bengtsson:

The Department of Political Science and the Social Science Research Institute of Åbo Akademi University, Finland, have the pleasure of inviting paper proposals to an international conference called

Democracy: A Citizen Perspective

to be held in Åbo (Turku), Finland, on May 27-28, 2015

The conference marks the completion of the activities of the Center of Excellence in democracy research (D:CE) that has been in operation since 2006. By bringing together a wide range of international researchers, the conference aims at portraying the state of the art in central fields of democracy research.

The conference consists of keynote addresses by Professor Diana C. Mutz and Professor David Farrell, as well as five panels chaired by members of the D:CE International Advisory Board (see www.dce.abo.fi for more details). Each panel is designed to include four paper presentations.

HOW TO PROPOSE A PAPER
Prospective participants should apply by proposing a paper to one of the panels (for descriptions, see www.dce.abo.fi for more details). Applications should include: Name, e-mail address and institutional affiliation of paper-givers . An indication of which panel the paper is intended for. An abstract of no more than 250 words describing the proposed paper. A statement whether the author wishes to participate in the conference irrespective of whether the paper is accepted for presentation

Paper proposals should be sent no later than January 31, 2015 to the Conference Secretary, Ms. Cecilia Fredriksson at cecilia.fredriksson@abo.fi

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Panel chairs will select the papers to be presented at the conference.
Those who have proposed papers will be informed about the selection before the end of February, 2015. Moreover, if the proposed paper cannot be accommodated in a panel, some scholars will be offered the possibility to participate without a paper. Those who aim to participate should register for the conference by notifying the Conference Secretary no later than March 31. Deadline for papers is May 8, 2015.

There will be no conference fee, and the local organizers will cover all conference meals for registered participants. The participants should, however, cover their own travel and accommodation. The Conference Secretary can be consulted for information about travel and accommodation options. We have negotiated fares at local hotels.

We are looking forward to your paper proposals!
