Newsletter February 2013 to the member of ECPR’s Standing Group on Public Opinion and Voting Behaviour in a Comparative Perspective

1. The bibliographic database
The bibliographic database of journal articles on public opinion, voting behaviour and related topics has been extended. The newest file includes 531 journal articles on voting behaviour published between October 2011 and September 2012 in core political science journals. The database can be downloaded by the members of the standing group from http://povb-ecpr.org/bibliography

Newsletter January 2013 to the member of ECPR’s Standing Group on Public Opinion and Voting Behaviour in a Comparative Perspective

1. The two sections initiated by the steering group for the General Conference in Bordeaux in France.

In our previous newsletter we informed you that we had initiated two sections for the ECPR General Conference in Bordeaux in France 4th-7th September 2013. Both of these sections were accepted by the Academic Convenors and they both have the maximum number of panels (8).

Section and panel proposals for the ECPR General Conference in Bordeaux in France 5th-7th September 2013

The steering committee has decided that that we shall initiate two sections for the next ECPR General Conference that will take place in Bordeaux in France 5th-7th September next year; one section where the theme is within general comparative public opinion and voting behaviour and one section which focus on public opinion and voting behaviour in connection to EU-elections. We have asked scholars within these fields to formulate section proposals.

Support for workshop proposals and research sessions proposals
The steering group has – after receiving various workshop proposals - decided to endorse the following three workshop applications for the Joint Sessions in Mainz during 2013:

  • Electoral Competitiveness in Cross-National Research: Challenges and New Directions for Research
    Workshop directors: Susan Banducci, Sylvia Kritzinger and Heiko Giebler
  • Innovations in the Study of Campaigns and their Effects
    Workshop directors: Thorsten Faas and Hajo Boomgaarden

1. Reykjavik General Conference
The ECPR General Conference took place in exotic Reykjavik 24-27 August. The standing group had initiated an 8 panel section on “Old and New Models in Electoral Research. Comparative Perspectives” with the two convenors as section chairs. One of us attended all eight panels which were well organised and had a significant audience.

The Joint Sessions of Workshops in St. Gallen

On of the workshops we supported was accepted. This was the workshop on “Issue Congruence and Policy Responsiveness in European Governance” (Workshop ID: 18) with Christine Arnold from the University of Maastricht and Mark Franklin from the European University Institute as workshop directors.
